About Us!

The Iron Range GSA (Gender-Sexuality-Alliance) is a youth-led community organization dedicated to creating a safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth in Ironwood MI and surrounding areas. Our main goal is to promote acceptance and to create a fun, safe space for queer youth to socialize. We happily collaborate with other organizations like FeLiveLife, Northwinds Co-op, and many others to help organize Ironwood's "Pride UP" festival. Our achievements as a group would not have been possible without the help of our supporters, and we express our sincere gratitude for the resources, encouragement, and assistance they have offered us. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all our supporters!

Our Story

Establishing the Iron Range GSA was a challenging undertaking. Our initial goal was to establish an official school club, and we worked for months to prepare our proposal for the school board. Despite having significant support from members of the community and staff, our request was ultimately denied in a 6-1 vote due to opposition from some community and board members. However, we refused to be deterred. We recognized the need for an organization that could provide a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ+ youth who may not feel accepted in our community. After continued efforts, we formed a community organization that welcomed students from surrounding areas. In December 2021 we held our first meeting, and we are so proud of how far we've come! We now coordinate events such as our annual "Lights of Pride" vigil walk and participate in our community's Pride festival, among other accomplishments. Our organization owes a great deal of gratitude to our members, officers, and supporters. Without each and every one of you, we would not be where we are today. Your contributions are vital to our success.
